I do this because I want to provide information that will fit everyone ~ what they have available to them, be it free tools, or paid tools.

But here’s the deal.

YOU CAN’T USE ALL THE METHODS!

I offer all the options so people can choose the one that works best for their circumstances, for what they have. If you don’t have cash right now and need free methods ~ use the free methods I’ve described.

HOWEVER…

If you get the cash and pick up Micro Niche Finder, quit using the free methods and use the Micro Niche Finder methods. The numbers you will get from a paid product will always trump the free methods I’ve given you. The paid tools have technology behind them ~ they put together a bunch more information, more variables, more stuff ~ and run it through their “formula” and pop out a number that you can use to make a decision. All of this information put together adds up to a more accurate reading of the keyword.

The free methods I offer you in finding search volume and competition are down and dirty techniques. They are meant to give you a place to start. Once you get started and you’ve invested in a tool ~ use the tool.  The tool will always give you better information than the free methods.

Trying to use the methods described for tools, and the free methods will only lead you to confusion and frustration ~ I promise.

So choose your weapon and use it, and don’t try to mix and match. It just doesn’t work.

If you’re still having trouble with keyword research I highly recommend rereading this post about the secret to getting traffic. I just did and it’s really good. It shows methods for using both free tools and Micro Niche Finder ~ but remember ~ only use one method depending on the tools you have available to you.

1. How long lens will be indexed and get ranking on page 1 google? 3-6 months?

2. Sorry this is quite to the point, but do you think we are able to get decent income from Squidoo lenses alone?

3. If now I start to make new lenses to prepare Christmas time, do you think I can make it?  I am thinking that the time span it’s quite short to promote the lenses and get rank on Google.

1. How long will it take to get to page 1?

This completely depends on the keyword you’ve chosen ~ the level of competition the keyword has and how diligently you build backlinks to the lens.

I’ve had lenses indexed and ranked in a day. I have lenses that were indexed in 24 hours and STILL don’t rank for the keyword.

There is no set answer to this question because there are too many variables, between the keywords you choose, and the action you take.

You can certainly choose keywords with minimal competition and get them indexed in a day or two ~ if you do some basic linking.

It’s possible to get them ranking on the first page in a week, to a couple months ~ again depending on the competition level of the keyword and how diligently and consistently you build backlinks to the lens.

2. Can I Create a Full Time Income from Squidoo?

You probably can, but why would you want to? I love Squidoo, don’t get me wrong. But I would never create my entire income from a site I don’t own, where someone else makes the rules.  The thing is… your lens could be locked or taken down at any point, simply because Squidoo decides to change the rules.

The other thing about Squidoo is it’s going to take a LOT of lenses. I’m not talking 5 or 10 here. If you’re trying for a full time income you’re going to need at least 100 lenses (probably more than that) … researched, promoted, backlinks built, the whole process done for EACH and EVERY lens.

People do make a good income from Squidoo. (You can see here how many lenses Capt Squid has) I would not personally use it as my main income source though. It is a perfect place to get started, to learn SEO, to learn about creating content, to learn about conversion ~ and what it takes to get people to click through and buy. It’s great to earn your first dollar ~ or your regular $500 a month. But at that point I would take some of my earnings and reinvest it into a hosting account and start building sites I own ~ using all the things I learned from working at Squidoo.

3. If I start now, can I make it before Christmas?

If you don’t start now, you’ll never make it for Christmas. The first year I did the Christmas Cash Blueprint I started in the beginning of October. It cut it close ~ and I had to work my ass off, but I did get some of my lenses to page one and made some money.

The next year those lenses had some age on them and they did quite well again.

It’s not all about “today” or “this Christmas”, these product lenses are products people are using throughout the year. People buy stuff all year long, they happen to get into a bit of a feeding frenzy the last couple months of the year, but the work you do on these product lenses doesn’t end the day after Christmas. These lenses will continue to work for you for sometimes years to come.

So… in conclusion:

1. You’ll never get to page 1 until you decide to do something and do it.

2. You’ll never get to a full time income until you decide to do something and do it.

3. You’ll never get something ready for Christmas until you decide to do something and do it.

I truly appreciate your questions… I truly appreciate the doubt and the fear that is involved in getting started, in making a decision.

But really. If you don’t decide and get started you will not reach any goals.

I know everyone wants a road map. I know I wanted a road map when I was just getting started. I wanted someone to say “here do this and you’ll be successful and making money”. I wanted a list. So I could just follow the list and make money.

Hear me. Internet Marketing Does NOT work that way. I can give you a list. Hell, I have given you a list. The minute you decide you can ONLY do what’s on the list is the minute you decide to fail.

I’ve been getting some emails and comments that it’s becoming harder to find “good keywords” with the Google kw tool. That may be so. I don’t know. I don’t really use it much anymore. I know Google has made some changes to it recently and that may be part of the issue.  You’ve got two choices then… buy a tool that will help you do it, or change your strategy a little bit.

There are a million ways to make these product lenses work. I showed you one way that generally works for me. But if you go through my lenses you’ll see they aren’t all Christmas Cash Lenses. In fact, most of them aren’t. Mix it up, try new things. It’s the only way you’re going to grow as a business person. You’ve got to start learning what works for YOU, and that only happens by getting out there, trying new things, and knowing some of them will work, and some of them will be great big huge flops. Either way… you benefit.

I went through my old Micro Niche Finder Folders and found some keywords I would make lenses out of. They probably wouldn’t follow the template of a regular SCC lens ~ but they will work just the same.

I’m going to give them to you… I’d like to see you run with them. If you pick a keyword and do an original type lens with it, come back and tell me and I’ll put it through Traffic Bug for you if you don’t have it already. I want to see some of YOUR work, YOUR originality, YOUR personality.

You can help the bots find your new lens, and get Google to see it with a couple pretty simple steps. The key to getting indexed is creating a path for the bots to follow. The bots are always looking for new content. They “spider” sites regularly checking to see if there’s anything new out there. This is to your advantage. This is how you create a path, or trail for the bots to follow right back to your lens.

1. Find a site that is indexed already ~ one that has a lot of new content regularly so the bots are likely to be there often looking for new stuff.

This could be any number of sites.

Free ad blogs
popular blogs
Article directory
Twitter

These are just a few sites you can  use to help the process.

2.  Create some content on that site and link back to your lens.

Once you’ve found a site that gets plenty of bot attention (it’s regularly updated with new content) you want to create some content and include a link back to your site.

Free ad blog ~ create a post and publish it on the site. In your post include a link to your new lens. (make sure you use your targeted keyword as the anchor text of your link)

Popular blog ~ go and leave a comment. Make it a good comment, related to the content of the post. Use your lens url in the “url field”.

Article directory ~ this way takes longer because you have to get your article approved, but it will work, and it will be a nice link back to your site. Make sure you use your targeted keyword phrase for the anchor text of your link. This doesn’t have to be EZA ~ there are a number of quality article directories that don’t take as long as EZA to get your content out there.

Twitter ~ this is one of the simplest ones and I find it works GREAT for indexing. Just write a quick tweet and include the link to your lens. (you could also do this for facebook)

3. Ping your new content.

This is a little trick that will help the search engines find your new content. You can go to pingomatic.com and put in the url for the content you just published and then choose services to ping and click send ping. This will notify all those places you’ve put up new content and will help the spiders find your content faster.

There is also a bookmarklet for pingomatic. It’s  a little thing you drag into your favorites bar on your browser. Then you can just click it from any page and it will automatically ping that page for you. This makes it super easy to ping new content you publish. I highly recommend you grab it. (it’s free)

4. Carry on with your promotional plans.

Your lens will get indexed. I promise. It may take 6 hours or it may take 6 days ~ but it will get indexed. However long it takes there’s no sense wasting time waiting. Continue your promotional efforts ~ build links ~ it will only help.

5. Try again…

If you find after a week or so your lens is still not indexed ~ and you’ve done the first 3  things mentioned above, I’d go through and do them again. New content. New pings. That should do it.

***** Word of warning *****

Do not obsess about this. Your lens will get indexed. I have never seen a lens NOT get indexed. Even if no links were ever built for it. Squidoo happens to be one of those highly spidered sites. It will be found. Just do the basics you need to do and continue to promote your lens. When  you’ve done the promotion you need to do, move on to the next lens.

There is no point in sitting around obsessing over one lens, when in that time you could publish another one.

While I was looking at them though, I noticed a few things and thought it would be fun to do a quick review of one of the lenses that was made.

I chose the Jungle Party Supplies lens to review for a couple reasons. It used one of the keywords I provided.  It was  ”plural” keyword which means you have to get a little more creative, and the person used a lot of Amazon modules.

The thing I RRRR want to get across here, is even if you’re not using the exact Squidoo Christmas Cash outline there are still some things that are crucial you do. These are things that help your on page SEO ~ which helps Googe know what your lens is about, and helps them choose to rank it for your targeted keywords.

Brittany did a pretty good job of this, but there’s a couple things she could have done a little differently that will help with the SEO and her conversion.

1. There’s no Intro Module Title.

The titles of your modules are what are known as “H1″ tags. These are the tags that Google looks at the most when trying to figure out what a site is all about you. You definitely want to get your keywords in your module titles ~ especially the ones nearest the top.

2. Keywords in the lens url and title ~ good job on this one!

3. No link in your intro module.

There has been a lot of testing done by Squidoo and they have learned that the first link in a lens is the one that is clicked by far, the most often. (that’s why they have info links in the intro module). If you have an affiliate link you can use, you should always use it as close to the beginning of the intro module as you can ~ with your targeted keywords as the anchor text. (Anchor text is another way Google identifies what a page is about).

4. Poll Module isn’t really related to the topic.

You want all your content to be congruent. People looking for party supplies are probably trying to put together a party. Maybe a better poll would be to ask what kind of jungle party supplies they need/looking for? This will allow you to put your keywords in the poll module title ~ it will also give you great information as to what products to really feature in your lens. If everyone is looking for jungle candy ~ and you’re not offering it, well that’s something good to know.

5. Amazon spotlight module:

Nice way to use the module ~ just make sure you use your keywords in the title. Use them in a way that will help the reader understand the product is ALL the supplies in one party pack. I didn’t really get that the first time I looked at it.

Also with these spotlight modules ~ used in the lens itself ~ you might want to pull some content, whether it’s a product description or a review out and put it in the “why should this product be highlighted?” area. A little more content is always a good thing. (this isn’t necessarily true if you’re using the spotlight module in the sidebar)

6. The amazon modules:

Remember the keyword you are targeting is jungle party supplies ~ you want to include the targeted keyword as often as you can ~ so maybe instead of “Jungle Party Hats” You use Jungle Party Supplies ~ Hats as your module title.

Each of these amazon modules also gives you room to write some content in the description area. I would use it. Write a little bit about how hats are going to add to the party. People are obviously looking for supplies, but you want to give them the confidence that what you are offering is going to be perfect for what they are doing. This kind of content is going to help increase your click through and conversion rates. You will have them “sold” before they even get to Amazon which is exactly what you want to do.

7. from _____

In your titles you’re using Hats from Amazon, music from itunes ~ I wouldn’t do that. You want to give them a benefit to THEM ~ so instead maybe Jungle music to keep your guests dancing ~ or the party moving or whatever. It doesn’t matter where it’s coming from, what’s important is what’s in it for them.

8. video ~ love it.

This is a great video ~ and again, in your title you want to give them a way it’s going to benefit them. Jungle animal cupcakes is boring ~ you want to spice it up and give them a reason to watch the video.

9. Call to action

This lens is really missing a call to action. There’s no place that tells them what the next step is, what they should do next. I’m thinking you don’t have an amazon account ~ but even without one you can create a call to action using the spotlight module ~ You really want to have something that tells them what to do next “click here” kind of thing.

All in all this is a great start ~ some things you can tweak to help with your SEO and conversion but off to a good start.  While doing lenses is fun, remember creating the lens is really the smallest part of the process. You’ve got to build links using your targeted keyword as the anchor text to get this lens to rank for your keywords.
